Review of Stairlift Essentials

Stairlifts come in all shapes and sizes and there are many considerations that need to be made, it’s not a simple case of ordering a stairlift for the best price and getting it installed; your individual needs must to be considered and fully met with a professional survey undertaken of your property to decide if you need a straight or curved stairlift and any personal requirements met such as left or right-handed controls.

Straight Stairlift:

These are the most common and easiest to install and do exactly what it says on the tin, this particular design are for a stairlift traveling in a straight line with no bends or curves in your stairs and in most cases can be fitted to the left or right hand side of your stairs. A track will be fitted to your stairs to allow the chair to safely take you up and down with ease.

Curved Stairlift:

This design is used when you have a curve in your stairs, the track is fitted around the corners including on most spiral staircases and as with the straight stairlift the track can normally be fitted to the left or right hand side. Both the curved or straight options include a folding seat, folding arms and foot rest so that the stairs are not blocked when used by the able-bodied.

Deciding on a straight or curved stairlift will be done by the installer or determined by the salesman at the time of a site visit. Whatever make or model you choose, all will have relevant safety controls so that the lift will stop if anything gets in the way of the moving parts, all will be easy to use with simple start stop controls. The chairlift is very easy to manoeuvre and all models have a battery backup so that you will not be stranded up or down stairs in the event of a power cut.

You may be given many choices at the ordering stage of various options including upgrading to maybe a more comfortable seat, various colours, designs etc but undoubtedly the most important of all is absolutely none of these, all stairlifts will basically do the same thing and that is safely take you up and down stairs; that is what they are designed to do and while stair lifts are extremely reliable like all things mechanical nothing is guaranteed to work 100% of the time so from experience the most important thing about a stairlift is the after sales and I strongly recommend that anybody that relies on a stair lift to get up and down the stairs does not accept anything other than 24-hour callout, 365 days a year.

You may have to pay extra for this but you need to be aware that not all stairlift installation companies provide out of hours callout services and it could mean that if your stairlift breaks down at the weekend or after hours you could be stranded either up or down stairs. You need to avoid this at all costs and make sure that you have help at hand whatever time of day or night.

Where to go for Help

Browsing around and checking out the services of various stairlift companies we have come across a dedicated and family run business Stayhome Stairlifts UK they pride themselves in providing simple, honest advice with no pressure to purchase and promise not to pester you with unwanted calls and they offer that all important 24-hour, 365 days a year callout. We called them as potential customers and found them to be extremely polite, very useful and informative and at no time did they make us feel pressured and also offered a free brochure to browse through at my leisure. I called them freephone on 0800 652 9562. Their website link is highlighted above, I suggest that you take your time and click through the information, frequently asked questions, testimonials etc and make a few notes or questions before calling.

Having a stairlift installed in your home is undoubtedly a far better option than moving home and allows you to stay in the home that you love. Our advice to you is to gather as much information as possible, never make an immediate decision unless you are 100% happy, ensure that the company, product and after sales meet your exact requirements.

If you feel uncomfortable or unsure at any time simply back away and go to another company and make sure that they meet your exact needs.

Great review as usual, what I like is its not so much of a stairlift review but a review of what the users/buyer needs to be aware of.
